OPI Shimmer Into Summer, 2011

Hi dearies. I has a quick collection swatch post for you this morning!

OPI released yet another four piece collection, this time an ULTA Exclusive called Shimmer Into Summer. It’s got two blues, a grey, and a sheer. Now people are saying that this is basically a certain repackaged Nicole by OPI collection from a while back, and it seems to be true. I wasn’t into polish back then, so I can’t quite confirm. So it was a good opportunity for people to pick up the colors they missed back then!

OPI I’m An Aqua-holic
This is a beautiful medium blue foil shimmer.

But… Not really what an aqua looks like. Shrug. It kind of reminds me of what the base of Zoya Charla could have been, without the glass fleck particles.

OPI Sparkle Teal Sunrise
This one is a very sheer, jelly, topper (I assume– who would wear it on its own like this?). It’s a green (NOT teal!) base with multi-colored glitter. I do not care for this one on its own and I haven’t tried layering it, but I see the potential.

OPI How You Blue-in?
What an annoying name. This one is a blackened teal and I like a lot. I love dark vampy polishes because it shows my “dark side” ;D

OPI Glitter-ally the Best Silver Ever. This is a light, smokey shimmery grey packed with little silver glitter in it.
Wow. It’s ugly! I thought I would looooove it but um. Just look at my swatch. I can’t. I took a ton of pictures and I was trying to choose a second swatch so I asked Nick, my darling fiance, which photo was the best and he stared at it. “Or are they all crap?” “yes.” I told him it was the polish, nothing could be done. LOL.
I do believe the main problem I had with this polish is that while it’s unique, it’s not an everyday shade you’d easily come across, THE PROBLEM WAS THE FORMULA. Goooooooopy. This is three generous coats, folks. And do you see bald patches? Yes. Pooling at the cuticles/end of nail? Yes.

Overall Thoughts:

I was not wowed by this collection. In the bottle, I’m an Aqua-holic and How You Blue-in? looked very, very similar. I was kind of puzzled but I was relieved to find that it was not going to be the case when I finished swatching. They also seem to have no coherency other than they’re just shiny. OPI is usually good at putting out coordinating collections, or collections that evoke a lot of memory but this collection I just do not know. The blue shimmers were beautiful and the formula was stellar, and I’m happy to have them.
If I were you, I’d pick up either blue shimmer and maybe Sparkle Teal Sunrise if you like layering.
I can still see this polish in my ULTA but I think they’re going to be gone soon. Did any of you, my readers, pick something up from this? What are your thoughts?
