OPI Miss Universe 2011

OPI released a collection for the Miss Universe 2011 event. I just have to say that when I hear beauty pageants I always think about the movie Miss Congeniality, and that’s where the quote above is from LOL. I freakin’ love Sandra Bullock.

This collection is a four piece, and it’s got three shimmers and a silver glitter that much reminds me of OPI Spark de Triomphe. I achieved opacity with two medium coats, with the exception being the glitter, which was three coats. I found formula to be completely hassle free, and it flowed forth from their trademark Pro-Wide brush like a dream.

OPI It’s MY Year!
Apologies for the bald patch, this one gave me a bit of trouble and I think a third coat would have been best in this case.

This is an interesting polish… It’s a duochrome glass fleck, somewhere between pink and rose gold. When I saw the glass fleck finish, I immediately thought of the likes of Zoya Faye, or OPI Rally Pretty Pink but I am not sure. It’s described as a purple but it definitely looks to be in the pink family. A bit more detail:

I like this one, it’s a beautiful and elegant shade.

OPI Crown Me Already!
An extremely dense silver glitter with a mix of both hex and round shapes, you can see the detail in this bottle shot:

This reminded me a lot of OPI Spark de Triomphe, a white gold glitter but it’s not as dense as Spark de Triomphe– at three coats, you could still see bald spots. Three coats is my cut off, and I am not sure if a fourth coat would really have fixed it up.

While I was swiping the still-wet polish off with a paper towel to minimize the headache of glitter removal, I couldn’t help but take a photo of the paper towel. It looks like a silver nugget!

OPI Congeniality is My Middle Name.
This is a ruby, kinda blood red, shimmer (the photo shows it about three shades lighter than it could be.) The shimmer in it appears to flash pink, or maybe purple. It has an interesting texture to it– it’s kind of a jelly! Even at two coats, some VNL could be spotted but the camera likes to exaggerate things. In real life it was perfectly fine, and a perfect fall, vampy shade.

The color on the middle fingernail is the closest to the true shade. This was a hard and complicated color to capture!

OPI Swimsuit…Nailed It!
Yes, the name has got those ellipses in it. -_- Aside from the name, this polish is easily my FAVORITE of this collection. What, not the glitter? I KNOW. And as a result, I bring spammah:

This is a stunning electric blue shimmer, pretty much a foil!

This was only one coat too! It completely blew me away when I swatched it on my nails, the color in the bottle is so unassuming.

Ugh. Love it! Just try to take this bottle away from me, I dare you.

Overall thoughts:

I was surprised to see a collection geared for a beauty pageant to have a surprising depth of color complexity. For instance, there’s only ONE pink. I would expect two versions but no, we get a BLUE foil, a duochrome glass fleck, a shimmer jelly, and a glitter! I was also impressed with the variety of finishes in such a small collection.

I have already worn OPI Congeniality is My Middle Name as a full manicure. It lasted me probably four days and when I took it off, it looked pristine– so that’s definitely a nod to the quality of the formula here.
